Christian McCaffrey on Overcoming Injury Setbacks and the San Francisco Comeback Season.

Christian McCaffrey, the running back for the San Francisco 49ers, spoke with Kay Adams on the “Up & Adams Show” and reflected on one of the most significant seasons of his football career. On the show, McCaffrey revealed that he had faced his greatest moments of adversity before he was traded to the 49ers.

“Even in some losing seasons, I’ve had good individual years and I didn’t understand what adversity in the NFL looked like yet at an individual level,” said McCaffrey. “I had faced and lost a few big games on the team. However, I feel like I’m not a part of the team because I can’t play and have to watch my teammates play from the sidelines.”

Only 10 games were played by McCaffrey in his final two seasons with the Carolina Panthers because of injuries. The running back experienced his first serious injury setback four years into his NFL career when he sprained his right high ankle during the Panthers’ loss to the Tampa Bay Bucs. He was placed on his team’s injured reserve list and missed six games as a result.

During the final drive of the Kansas City Chiefs game, McCaffrey hurt his shoulder in his first game back from injury. The running back had to miss the rest of the 2020 season due to a thigh glute strain and a shoulder injury.
