Jose Barrero is Down to His Last Shot With Cincinnati Reds.

A decision that will impact Jose Barrero’s future with the Cincinnati Reds and potentially in professional baseball will be made at the start of the 2024 Major League Baseball season.

Barrero was listed on a list of players the Reds would be depending on as the team attempts to construct a division winner in 2024, earlier this offseason, according to Reds President of Baseball Operations Nick Krall.

Barrero is the 26th player on the Reds’ active roster, which is a significant drop for the team’s former top prospect, according to Baseball American. This is based on a breakdown of the Reds’ current roster.

Jose Garcia, the shortstop, was signed by the Reds. Later, as an armature free agent in 2017, he would honor his grandmother by changing his name to Barrero.

Barrero played shortstop and second base for Single-A Dayton during the 2018 campaign. The young player would score a decent.In his first professional season, he scored 245/.290/.344, earning a promotion to high A Daytona in 2019.

The young prospect had a breakthrough season in 2019 as he statically moved up the rankings list and the leader board. Barrero would have a.280/.343/.436 line for the Tortugas, which would probably lead to a 2020 promotion to Double-A Chattanooga.

Barrero would have different plans in 2020 if there was a global pandemic. The minor league system was shut down entirely.
