Lambert to Create Own Coaching Team; Gruden & Hiller Fired.

The remaining coaching positions were up for grabs after head coach Barry Trotz was fired and Lane Lambert was hired. During his press conference to introduce Lambert as the new head coach on the island, New York Islanders general manager Lou Lamoriello stated and emphasized that all of the assistant coaches had contracts.

In addition, Lamoriello stated that he and Lane would talk about and assess the coaching staff as a whole before deciding on each member’s future.

“Lane and I are going to have a conversation where we will discuss his ideas and mine regarding job descriptions and what an assistant’s responsibilities are in specific areas. All decisions related to these matters must be made,” Lamoriello stated. “But as I mentioned earlier, our assistant coaches are currently under contract, but we haven’t had the time to dedicate ourselves to the various areas we plan to work on in the near future.”
