Who are the true Canadiens, What the Puck?

Thanks to a potent first line and solid goaltending from Samuel Montembeault, the Habs are performing better than anticipated this season.

Okay? Are we half full of Habs fever, a la Spring 2021, or are we a glass of Molson suds half empty?

It’s difficult not to feel a little bit optimistic on this Thursday afternoon, especially after Les Boys’ unexpected victory over the New Jersey Devils in Newark on Wednesday night. Particularly considering that the triumph in Jersey occurred just a few days following what I consider to be the team’s finest game of the year—that thrilling Bell Centre game on Monday, when the good guys managed to overcome the on-ice beast that is Nathan MacKinnon and his Colorado Avalanche.

And before they lost in overtime, they played a great game on Saturday, going head-to-head with the Edmonton Oilers, who were on the rise. That outstanding performance came right after. They are therefore winning by the standards of the 2023–2024 Canadiens.

Up until you bring up the fact that the San Jose Sharks, the worst team in the National Hockey League, defeated them last Thursday. Only nine other games this season have the humble Sharks prevailed!

Who, then, are the true Canadians? The one who gave the Sharks two points and startled the Avs or the Keystone Kops? Actually, both. The squad suffers from a severe case of split personalities, which frequently manifests itself in different ways during a single game.
