ESPN REPORT: 2 Star Players Rejects Resigning With The La Rams.
The Los Angeles Rams surprised many by having a stronger season than predicted, and head coach Sean McVay compares this team to his early Rams teams.
The Rams were 4-12 and clearly in the rebuilding phase the year before McVay took over as head coach. However, with an 11-5 record in his first season as head coach, McVay guided the team to the postseason.
This year’s scenario is nearly the same, as the squad qualified for the playoffs despite being eliminated from the competition from the start. After overcoming all of the injuries to go to the Wild Card round, the Rams had the worst record ever held by the reigning Super Bowl champion.
It’s a useful analogy, McVay remarked. “It does feel like this was kind of a new start to the journey that we’re on.”
The emergence of a relatively young running back as a major player is another similarity. Todd Gurley’s 2016 season was less spectacular than his incredible rookie campaign. However, he recorded over 1,000 yards rushing and almost 800 yards receiving in 2017 while playing under McVay.
The Rams were in dire need of a running back, and Kyren Williams came through when they needed him. Williams didn’t simply have a small part; he made a name for himself and appears to have the potential to be a future star.
The fact that this club is reminding him of the Rams from 2017 is heartening to McVay, who sees it as a harbinger of a bright future.
