The depth of the Iowa women’s basketball team matches its talent.

IOWA CITY, Iowa: Lisa Bluder could not have come up with a better description of the Iowa squad that won 27 games and made it to the NCAA Tournament’s second round the previous year.

Talented, tough, competitive, and intelligent—all of these qualities fit Bluder’s 2013–2014 team.

The Hawkeyes were lacking in depth last season. Iowa has depth going into this season, and quality depth at that. That’s just another way to put it.

At Iowa’s annual media day on Thursday, Bluder declared, “I think this is the deepest we have been in a long time, if not maybe since I’ve been here.” “We have 14 women on scholarship right now — which that alone is going to give you more depth — but it’s really the quality of the depth.”

Theairra Taylor, a senior guard, was the only member of Iowa’s 27-9 Big Ten championship squad that was lost.

Four starters, ten letterwinners, and 84% of the Hawkeyes’ scoring from the previous campaign are back.

Samantha Logic, Bethany Doolittle, and Melissa Dixon, all seniors, along with sophomore Ally Disterhoft, lead the Hawkeyes’ formidable roster.
