It’s Not Who You Think Is The Most Impressive Player for the Yankees.

The Yankees have not fared well in this season thus far. The team has had a difficult start and currently sits in fourth place in the AL East as of Wednesday. Although injuries have had a role, many players will never forget this season. Anthony Rizzo is hitting just.174 since May 28. On that particular day, he was involved in a collision with Fernando Tatis Jr. during a San Diego Padres game and sustained a neck injury. With concussion symptoms, Rizzo was put on a 10-day IL on August 4, potentially ending his season. Not that Giancarlo Stanton has done any better. With 236 at-bats, the infamously erratic power hitter has only hit.203.

Not that there haven’t been any promising moments for the Yankees. Gerrit Cole signed a $9-year, $324 million contract at the end of 2019, and since then, he has played exactly as the front office had hoped. Among all MLB pitchers this season, his 4.8 WAR is the highest. Additionally, Clay Holmes has pitched incredibly well. Though the Yankees reliever had a rough start to the season, in the past two weeks, he has only allowed two runs. Aaron Judge was also headed for another close MVP race with Shohei Ohtani prior to his injury. Judge is leading the Yankees in OPS, batting average, and home runs despite missing almost two months of action. Additionally, his 2.6 WAR ties him for second place on the team.
