Caitlin Clark, an Iowa star, will compete in the John Deere Classic Pro-Am.

The national women’s basketball player of the year and avid golfer, Iowa guard Caitlin Clark, will participate in the pro-am of the PGA Tour’s John Deere Classic on July 5.

Zach Johnson, the captain of the American Ryder Cup team that will play Europe in Rome later this year, and Clark are both from Iowa.

Johnson, Clark, and their team will compete at Silvis, Illinois’s TPC Deere Run course. Clark will take part in a youth clinic at the driving range following her round.

Tournament director Andrew Lehman stated, “We are thrilled to be able to bring our fans the opportunity to see Caitlin Clark and Zach Johnson, two Iowa sports heroes, play.

The 6-foot point guard Clark guided Iowa to the Big Ten tournament title this past season. The Hawkeyes then advanced to the NCAA tournament championship game, where they were defeated by LSU. She was the top Division I women’s player in terms of assists per game (8.6), 3-pointers made per game (3.68), total 3-pointers made (140), triple-doubles (five), and scoring average (27.8 PPG).

Cedar Rapids native Johnson has won 12 PGA Tour championships, including two majors, the 2015 British Open and the 2007 Masters. Johnson has participated in the Ryder Cup five times. He attended Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, for his collegiate golf career.

West Des Moines native Clark has played golf since he was a young child.
