Blazers need to take advantage of the abundance of talented head coaches in the market.

The Portland Trail Blazers are in a pivotal point of their journey to contend for a championship. Despite having superstar Damian Lillard’s extraordinary skill set, the team has not been able to win on a regular basis under head coach Chauncey Billups.

With an unimpressive head coaching record of 62-104, it is obvious that a change is required. Luckily, there’s a rare chance to seize it, since a record number of extremely talented head coaches have opened up recently.

I won’t claim to be an expert on which head coach would be the greatest fit for the Blazers in the long run because it’s not just about their record. Any prospective head coach of the Blazers must get along well with Lillard and fit in well with the roster that general manager Joe Cronin assembles this offseason.

However, as Billups has shown, merely getting along with Lillard is insufficient.

The Trail Blazers should take advantage of this chance to move closer to a seasoned NBA coach in order to move their team closer to contention. Here are the potential contributions that each of the seven former head coaches that Cronin may choose to consider could make to Portland.
