Iowa's Caitlin Clark shaken up after colliding with court-storming fan: 'Just hammered' | Fox News

Following the Hawkeyes’ 15-game winning streak being ended on Sunday by a 100-92 overtime loss to the Buckeyes, Iowa’s Caitlin Clark was shaken up after tumbling into an Ohio State fan on the court. When Clark made contact with a fan who was sprinting toward her, she spun around and needed assistance from team members and a few teammates to get off the ground.

Despite facing constant double and triple teams, college basketball’s front-runner for National Player of the Year scored 45 points, a season-high.

“I was just trying to exit the court as quickly as possible, so I started running and I was absolutely just hammered by somebody trying to run onto the court,” Clark told The Hawkeye Insider. Basically, I was taken by surprise and felt a little scared as it could have seriously hurt me and taken away my breath. Fortunately, though, my teammates helped me get off the court and picked me up. I truly appreciate that their AD came and apologized to me already.”

At over 18,000 seats, the Ohio State women’s basketball team saw its largest-ever crowd during the game. Ohio State (15-3, 6-1) was coming off an 84-76 victory at Maryland on Wednesday. The team has now won five straight games.

West Des Moines, Iowa native Clark, a senior, is getting close to breaking the all-time NCAA women’s basketball scoring record. She overcame Wisconsin on Tuesday, surpassing Brittney Griner of Baylor. Clark’s 3,306 career points place her third on the NCAA career list, behind only Kelsey Plum of Washington (3,527 career points from 2013–17), Kelsey Mitchell of Ohio State (3,402 career points from 2014–18), and Jackie Stiles of Missouri State (3,393 career points from 1997–2001).

In Iowa’s game against Iowa on February 22, Clark would surpass Plum’s record with her current scoring rate of 31 points per game. The first player in Division I history to record a career with at least 3,300 points, 900 assists, and 800 rebounds is Clark. For the Hawkeyes, she also averages 1.7 steals, 7.7 assists, and 7.2 rebounds per game.
