Would Caitlin Clark of Iowa Have to Take a Pay Drop to Join the WNBA?
This week, the Iowa women’s basketball team has been widely covered by sports media for a variety of reasons. An Ohio State supporter who stormed the court after the Buckeyes defeated the Hawkeyes on Sunday, January 21st, really took the wind out of Caitlin Clark. It was also the fifth-ranked Iowa Hawkeyes’ sole defeat of the year.
It seems that this team becomes more and more well-liked after each game, regardless of the outcome. On my social media timeline, I came upon this old Caitlin video. When she enters the WNBA draft, she discusses NIL deals and whether or not she is actually taking a wage reduction. This is from her 2023 visit on the Dan Patrick show, but it’s interesting to hear her perspective if you haven’t seen it.
Is There Bad News for Fans of Hawkeyes?
Hawkeye supporters have been debating whether or not to keep Caitlin through the end of the 2024 season. Whether you’re conversing with a coworker at the water cooler or reading Hawkeyefan’s remarks on social media, the notion that she would lose money by playing in the WNBA is always brought up.roughly.
Perhaps supporters are merely holding out hope that because she makes millions playing collegiate basketball, why would she leave? It appears that a large number of us are not fully aware of how NIL trades operate. Even Dan Patrick, a sportscaster and reporter of more than 40 years, questioned whether Caitlin’s decision to join the WNBA would have an impact on her finances.
In Caitlin’s opinion, nothing will probably change as a result. She is free to carry on working with her sponsors and the businesses that support her.

The good news for Hawkeye fans who would love to see Caitlin return to the team next season is her decision, likely, won’t come down to money. If she wants to run back another season with Iowa, she can and will continue to minfluence my decision to stay or travel too far.ake bank next season.
The bad news is that money won’t probably play a factor in her decision. If she wants to become a professional athlete, she can keep earning a lot of money. The promise of “making more money in college” won’t keep her around if she’s ready to move on.
The Hawkeyes’ next game is set for New Year’s Eve at 7 p.m. versus Northwestern on the court. It doesn’t seem like money will be a factor in Caitlin’s decision to continue playing or join the WNBA.
