An early peek at Michigan football’s pivotal positional battles in 2023.

The Michigan Wolverines boast the greatest talent of any Michigan team in recent memory when they return in 2023. All in all, there are very high expectations, especially since the coaching staff has stayed the same up until this point.

Nevertheless, there are still a few crucial positional battles that could mean the difference between a national championship and another off-season filled with “what ifs” despite a large number of returning starters and experienced reserves.

Spring football is rapidly approaching, so keep an eye on these positional battles.

Which defensive end rusher is the best? This will be a question until the East Carolina game because of the departure of Mike Morris to the NFL Draft and the transfer of Eyabi Okie to his fifth school. Because of his versatility and experience, Jaylen Harrell appears to be one of the starters, but who will replace him as the team’s best pass rusher?

The Wolverines’ defensive mantra of not having a star player was admirable, but in crunch time, they missed having a player who could steal games. Which player on this team has the ability to prevail in one-on-one situations and make opposing teams constantly consider their alignment?

Essentially, it’s a three-man competition between a promising veteran,

Ronnie Bell, the team’s captain and wide receiver number one, as well as the remarkably underutilized Andrel Anthony, who provided depth, will need to be replaced by Michigan. Roman Wilson and Cornelius Johnson (assuming he returns) will be two of the best, but this Michigan offense prefers to rotate a fourth wide receiver in addition to their three primary receivers when passing.
