Nicolás Lodeiro: I’m going to play for the Seattle Sounders until 2023.

It seems that Nicolas Lodeiro’s illustrious career with the Seattle Sounders FC is coming to an end.

The Uruguayan No. 10, whose contract expires after the 2023 Major League Soccer season, informed Niko Moreno of Sounder At Heart that he has not heard from any new suitors and that “as far as I’m concerned, I’m just not going to get one.”

After Seattle defeated St. Louis CITY SC 2-0 on Decision Day, Lodeiro announced on his Instagram story that it was his last match of the regular season with the team. The 34-year-old added in his conversation with Moreno that “sometimes clubs have to make certain decisions and we have to respect them.”

There has been no official word on Lodeiro’s possible return from Seattle’s coaching staff (manager Brain Schmetzer) or front office (general manager & chief soccer officer Craig Waibel). The outcome may vary in the coming months. Seattle, the second-seeded team in the Western Conference for the Audi 2023 MLS Cup Playoffs, is hoping to have a historic run in the postseason, beginning with a Round One Best-of-3 series against FC Dallas, the seventh-seeded team.

Lodeiro is determined to succeed if his position that he won’t be accepting a new contract, even if it means accepting a smaller role or lower salary, is accurate.

“I will defend this jersey as I always have in every game I play until December 31st, as I am under contract,” Lodeiro declared. “My dedication and effort will remain unwavering until my very last match,” I said to the supporters.
