“She made someone cry once”—Caitlin Clark’s high school friend remembers her supremacy as she guides Iowa to the national championship game.

On Friday, Iowa upset the defending champions South Carolina thanks to another outstanding performance from Caitlin Clark. With 41 points, 6 rebounds, and 8 assists in the Hawkeyes’ 77-73 victory, she was almost unstoppable.

Ella McVey, Clark’s old high school teammate, reminisced about her supremacy in an interview with The Athletic. McVey described how the future star of Iowa moved someone to tears on the court with her trademark crossover move and step-back 3-pointer.

Caitlin Clark excelled in basketball while attending Dowling Catholic High School in Des Moines, Iowa. As a senior, she averaged 33.4 points, 8.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 2.7 steals per game. That season, she won the titles of Iowa Miss Basketball and McDonald’s All-American.

In her junior year, Clark also set a state record for the most 3-pointers made in a single game when she scored 60 points in one. In 2019, she was awarded Gatorade State Player of the Year. She was a five-star recruit and ESPN ranked her as the fourth best prospect in her class out of high school.
