Philadelphia As part of a “routine cleanout,” veteran center Jason Kelce of the Eagles had elbow surgery on Tuesday, the team announced.

After attempting to alleviate some residual discomfort, Kelce made the decision to undergo the procedure. Although a league source said it is reasonable that he will be ready for the season opener against the Detroit Lions on September 11, there is no set timeline for his return to action.

The 34-year-old Kelce has the longest active starting streak among centers in the NFL with 122 straight games started. Cam Jurgens, a rookie who was selected in the second round out of Nebraska, is ranked as the backup on the unofficial depth chart and has been receiving second-team reps during training camp.

Along with receiver DeVonta Smith (groin), running backs Kenny Gainwell (hip) and Boston Scott (concussion), and rookie tight end Grant Calcaterra (hamstring), Kelce’s injury list is getting longer.
