Eagles, Texans, Colts, and Seahawks lead the 2023 NFL Draft class rankings with grades in the “A” range.

Why offer grades right away for prospects who haven’t yet played a snap in the NFL? You are, after all, reading this, are you not? Eric Edholm rates the 2023 draft classes from 1 to 32, taking into account the composition of each roster and the circumstances surrounding each selection. Remember that picks acquired in exchange for seasoned players were not considered when determining these rankings, which are solely based on draft hauls.

Indeed, the rich got richer. The problem with the Eagles’ selection of Jalen Carter, the star of a potent draft class despite his well-documented character issues, is that they created the ideal atmosphere for him to succeed. They have a plethora of Carter’s college teammates on the roster (two added during this year’s draft) and have gradually put together a veteran-laden D-line that is currently arguably the best in the NFL. If general manager Howie Roseman hadn’t made a smart pre-draft trade the previous year, they also wouldn’t have a chance to sign Carter. Carter, who was selected by Philadelphia with the ninth pick (after moving up from No. 10) and being a successful enough team to be selected, may be the best player in this draft.
