The Philadelphia Eagles have appointed Vic Fangio as their defensive coordinator.

Eagles coach Nick Sirianni stated, “Vic’s reputation clearly speaks for itself.” “He has coached at a very high level in this league for many years and has a brilliant defensive mind. I’ve had the opportunity to observe firsthand Vic’s exceptional game knowledge, passion, and work ethic, which are what make him an outstanding coach. I can’t wait for our players and coaches to observe it firsthand and learn from him.

After just one season, the Eagles fired defensive coordinator Sean Desai last week. Playcalling duties were taken over by senior assistant Matt Patricia in December from Desai. He’s also not coming back.

After Philadelphia lost the Super Bowl the previous year, Jonathan Gannon left to become the head coach of Arizona, and Desai took his place.

The 65-year-old Fangio has worked for Carolina, Indianapolis, Houston, San Francisco, Chicago, and Miami as a defensive coordinator. From 2019 to 21, Fangio led Denver as head coach.
