2024 NRL Transfer Centre: Bulldogs captain departs as Dragons finally land a signing…

St George Illawarra have had their troubles in the transfer market, but can finally announce a new player with Raymond Faitala-Mariner joining from the Bulldogs.

The backrower had been one of the captains at Belmore last year and had two years remaining on an $800,000 deal, but has long been on the outer.

He was told that he was not part of the first grade plans late last year and was not required to attend pre-season training, though he did eventually join up with the squad after building bridges with the Bulldogs hierarchy.

His arrival is a rare bright spot in what has been the off-season from hell for the Dragons.

Previously, Canberra hooker Zac Woolford was the latest in a long line of transfer failures under new coach Shane Flanagan.

The Dragons had approached the Raiders hoping that Woolford, who is third choice behind Danny Levi and Tom Starling, might be allowed to leave – especially as the club also have Adrian Trevilyan waiting in the wings.
