Assistant Football Coach at Florida State NCAA suspends player for non-violating rule.

The NCAA declared on Thursday that a two-year show cause order against a Florida State assistant football coach had been issued for infractions pertaining to recruiting and name, image, and likeness policies.

The coach helped a booster and a transfer prospect have an illegal recruiting contact. The coach took the transfer prospect and his mother to an off-campus meeting with a booster who at the time was the chief executive officer of a NIL collective that was also a booster, while the prospect was on official campus visits.

In addition, a $5,000 fine, three years of probation, a three-year disassociation from the booster, and one percent of the football budget are all part of the punishment.

The booster offered the prospect a NIL opportunity with the collective during the off-campus visit, which would be worth approximately $15,000 per month during his first year with the Seminoles. The prospect was encouraged to join Florida State’s football team. Since boosters are not approved recruiters and are not allowed to meet prospects in person off campus, this is against current NCAA regulations.

After the meeting, the booster got in touch with the prospect and his mother as well. However, the player ultimately decided to stay at his previous school and removed his name from the transfer portal, rejecting the booster’s offer.
