Pitcher John Brebbia and the White Sox reach a $5.5 million, one-year deal.

CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago White Sox and right-hander John Brebbia reached an agreement on Friday for a one-year contract worth $5.5 million, which includes a mutual option for 2025.

The 33-year-old will receive $4 million this year, with a $6 million option that includes a $1.5 million buyout. Performance bonuses for games are Brebbia’s way to make $1 million a year: $250,000 for games 45, 50, 55, and 60.

In 40 appearances and 10 starts for San Francisco in the previous season, Brebbia was 3-5 with a 3.99 ERA. A strained right lat kept him out of action from mid-June until early September.

Brebbia led the NL in appearances (76) and was 6-2 with a 3.18 ERA in 2022 while pitching for the Giants. After six seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals and San Francisco, he is 15–15 with a 3.42 ERA.

Romy Gonzalez, an outfielder and infielder for Chicago, was designated for assignment.
