One of Everything: Things the Green Bay Packers Can Do Better in 2024.

I apologize if you, dear reader, are surprised by this. But let’s face it: The Green Bay Packers aren’t very good. Not after eight weeks of play, anyway. As we’ve stated previously, 2023 is an assessment year. As it happens, the roster has a ton of weak spots. The issue is that in 2024, there will be more holes than the Packers have draft picks. The squad’s financial resources for free agents are also limited. What then needs to be fixed right away in order for the upcoming season to improve?

Let’s begin with the actual roster. The offensive performance has been, to put it mildly, lackluster. Jordan Love, the rookie quarterback, has been nearly impossible to assess. Maybe not a single familiar face will be back in the RB room next year. The receivers’ incapacity to break free and make contested catches has been demonstrated. There’s one pass catcher in the TE room that can play, but he can’t get any YAC. There is an offensive line (?). The line of defense? The team recently traded away Rasul Douglas, their best-performing DB, and the rest of the secondary has the hospital on speed dial, so they still can’t stop the run. The kicker may be the only position on the team that is unnecessary. In August 2023, tell your past self that.

The Packers currently have eight guaranteed draft selections and may receive three additional compensatory picks. There is a ton of defensive talent in the upcoming 2024 draft class, but the Packers could be able to select a QB or WR who could significantly alter the course of the season if they pick in the top-10 (at least for the time being). Do they now venture out and make such a bold decision? Who knows? Given the number of holes in this roster, the Packers might want to hold onto all of their picks and trade back. Although it would slightly depress me, it seems like a very “Green Bay” move. It’s uncomfortable.

When you consider the players the Packers would even be able to afford, the list of 2024 free agents is a little disappointing. Out of all the positions, I believe they would be most likely to add a free agent to strengthen the secondary or the wide receiver room. Donovan Peoples-Jones, Laviska Shenault, and DJ Chark are notable receivers that could be available in the upcoming offseason and who I don’t believe would demand an absurd amount of money. Bryce Hall, Kristian Fulton, Micah Hyde (come home for a year, old man), and DeShon Elliott are available defensive backs and safeties. Though there are other names that seem more fitting, these guys seem more within the Packers’ price range.
