Pistons lose for a record-tying 26th time in the NBA.

The Detroit Pistons lost 126-115 to the Brooklyn Nets on Saturday, matching an NBA single-season record for futility while suffering their 26th straight loss.

The reigning champions Denver and Eastern Conference contenders Boston and Milwaukee posted easy wins, while the Los Angeles Lakers ended a four-game losing streak behind 40 points from LeBron James. Meanwhile, the Pistons tied the league record for the longest single-season losing streak, which was set by the Philadelphia 76ers in 2013–14 and the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2010–11.

The legendary Detroit Pistons, who captured NBA championships in 1989, 1990, and 2004, haven’t triumphed since October 28.

Mikal Bridges led the Nets, who had seven players score in double figures, with 29 points, six rebounds, and seven assists.

The Pistons, who committed 14 turnovers that resulted in 22 Nets points, were led by Jaden Ivey with 23 points and Cade Cunningham with 22 points.

Brooklyn never trailed after the first quarter, outscoring Detroit 62–42 in the paint and holding an 18–9 advantage in second-chance points.

The Nets put together a 15-0 scoring run to pull away late in the third quarter, when the Pistons were still in the hunt and trailing by six points.

When Detroit plays the Nets in Brooklyn again on Tuesday, they will look to turn the tables. A loss would move them one game closer to matching the record for the longest losing streak in NBA history, which was the 76ers’ 28-game collapse that covered the 2014–15 and 2015–16 seasons.

The Pistons’ coach, Monty Williams, acknowledged that his team had shown signs of improvement and commended them for their tenacity in the face of a depressing decline in morale.

“In this league, losing is terrible,” Williams continued. And it’s been prevalent. The way they simply keep fighting every night makes me proud. Our guys are not interested in participating in any kind of losing streak. But they return each day with renewed determination.
