The Austrian Jakob Poeltl blocked Miles Bridges on the other end and tip-in an Immanuel Quickley miss in clutch plays. In the final few plays, Rajakovic observed, “He was huge there, blocking shots, protecting the rim, and securing rebounds.”
Bridges put up 45 points, but the Raptors overcame it to win two of the six games they played away from home. Poeltl finished with a double-double of 12 points and 12 rebounds. Dennis Schroder, the current MVP of the FIBA World Cup, contributed more from Europe with 16 points, 5 assists, and 4 rebounds.The NBA’s only Canadian team will play its first game back at Scotiabank Arena until the All-Star break on Friday when it hosts the Houston Rockets.
In June, 44-year-old Rajakovic took over the Raptors. After relocating to North America in 2012 to pursue his coaching career, he worked as an assistant coach with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Phoenix Suns, and Memphis Grizzlies after spending two years in the G League with the Tulsa 66ers.
