Report: The Milwaukee Brewers star player is been suspended from all sports for placing a bets against…
On the eve of spring training, the Milwaukee Brewers shocked baseball fans by trading ace Corbin Burnes. Willy Adames, the shortstop, might he the next Milwaukee player to leave the team?
Bob Nightengale of USA Today reported on February 4 that the team may have acquired Joey Ortiz from the Baltimore Orioles. He added that the Brewers have informed teams of Adames’ tradeability. Nightengale did point out that Milwaukee might decide to wait until the trade deadline to complete a deal or just let the 28-year-old walk free at the conclusion of the year.
Joel Reuter of Bleacher Report hatched a fictitious deal that would send Adames to the San Francisco Giants. These are the specifics:
Giants are awarded: shortstop Adames Willy
Brewers receive: left-handed pitcher Erik Miller, catcher Joey Bart, and infielder Casey Schmitt. All three players have made it to the major leagues.
MLB.com stated that Bart (no. 2) and Schmitt (no. 14) were thought to be two of the best Giants prospects beyond 2022. Miller was ranked as San Francisco’s 29th-best prospect following 2023 by them as well.
Getting Adames to start at shortstop would provide the Giants with something they currently lack: real power.
The right-handed hitter has hit more than 20 home runs four times since 2019. 2022 will see the Brewers post a.756 OPS along with a 31-homer and 98 RBI campaign. In 2023, Adames’ OPS fell to.717 during 638 plate appearances, but his power remained unwavering. With 24 home runs, 29 doubles, 80 RBI, and 73 runs scored, he concluded the season well.
It’s not a very positive picture when considering the Giants’ present position in the power department. With twenty-three home runs in 2023, Wilmer Flores led the team. However, infielder David Villar is predicted by ZiPS to be San Francisco’s 2024 club leader with 18 home runs. The Giants are the only MLB team without a player who ZiPS predicts will hit at least 20 home runs this season.
Naturally, these projections would be altered by the addition of outfielder/designated hitter Jorge Soler and/or third baseman Matt Chapman. However, none of those things have occurred yet, and Adames would provide much-needed strength to manager Bob Melvin’s team.
