When Antonio Pierce took over as the Las Vegas Raiders’ interim head coach in Week 9, it was evident that he was the perfect man for the job. The team began to compete at a different level as their morale improved. In addition, he delegated authority to defensive coordinator Patrick Graham to carry out his wishes. That’s when the defense became a top-five team.
Although there were still issues with the offensive, it’s safe to say that they couldn’t get any worse. To get that workforce where it needs to be, the Raiders have brought in a number of employees. Pierce is now in charge since he has his men in place. The Raiders had a real chance to make the playoffs going into Week 16, and they narrowly missed out on them the previous season.
Everything has changed since the beginning. With the possible exception of Josh Jacobs, who may or may not return, they have their core group of guys. Above all, though, Antonio Pierce will be their starting point for the season. Every game, this locker room will be full of people. Even better, Pierce is already making a statement to the other teams in the AFC West. It was stated to Pierce that dealing with the head coaches in the AFC West would be difficult.
Saying on Sirius XM Radio, “No, I think it’s the other way around,” Pierce said. They have a tough task ahead of them, both the Raiders and me. I mean, I can only base my opinion on my nine games. We had a division record of 3-1. We will be an issue because of the way we played, which I believe was very convincing in those games. They’ll have to start focusing on the Raiders since I’m not looking at anyone else. That’s the strategy we’re using.
“I understand. We must merit it. Antonio Pierce, or AP, is just blathering. We are not, that is for sure. It’s going to be work time. We intend to work throughout the entire off-season. Assemble the most qualified team possible. We’re going to have faith. Winning the division is our sole objective. It doesn’t have to pass through the red-clad team; we know where it passes through.
