NFL Draft 2024 Rumors: Some Commanders Insiders Find Caleb Williams’ Trade Up Interesting.

The Washington Commanders are reportedly considering trading up to the first overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft in order to select USC quarterback Caleb Williams.

Some Commanders executives are “fascinated” by the thought of moving up to get Williams, but they realize that if the Chicago Bears decide they want Williams at No. 1 overall, there might not be anything they can do, according to ESPN’s Dan Graziano.

Drake Maye of North Carolina and Jayden Daniels of LSU are two outstanding quarterback options for the Commanders at No. 2, even if the Bears select Williams first overall.

When Washington appointed Kliff Kingsbury as the offensive coordinator under new head coach Dan Quinn last week, it caused a stir.

Kingsbury was most recently employed as USC’s senior offensive analyst in 2023. He is most known for his tenures as head coach of the Arizona Cardinals from 2019 to 2022 and Texas Tech from 2013 to 2018.

As a result, Kingsbury had the opportunity to collaborate closely with Williams during the previous season, which led to rumors that the Commanders were trying to sign the 2022 Heisman Trophy winner.

Williams might be on Washington’s radar, but hiring Kingsbury doesn’t guarantee success, Graziano warned.

After all, Daniels could succeed under Kingsbury given that he has a dual-threat game akin to Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray, and Maye has experience playing in a system akin to Air Raid.

Williams has been regarded by many as the clear favorite to be selected first overall in the 2024 NFL draft since the conclusion of the 2022 campaign, and that opinion may still hold true.

Williams was a formidable force in 2022, rushing for 382 yards and 10 touchdowns in addition to throwing for 4,537 yards, 42 touchdowns, and five interceptions.

Even though he had a slight decline in output in 2023—he still ranked among the top—throwing for 3,633 yards, 30 touchdowns, and five interceptions in addition to rushing for 142 yards and 11 touchdowns.
