Plans for the Angels’ end-of-spring rotation and a potential starting lineup.

Dylan Bundy will start for the Angels on opening day at Salt River Fields on Thursday against the Rockies. Behind him appears to be the starting lineup for opening day.

While he acknowledged that it was conceivable, manager Joe Maddon would not fully commit to declaring that this was the lineup the Angels would use on April 1. Mike Gallego, the bench coach, chose the starting lineup for this match.

“This is a really strong lineup,” Maddon remarked. It’s something I’ve always enjoyed having my bench coach do for spring training. It’s a fantastic method of giving them power.

Jared Walsh might be the only exception, as he is expected to spend a lot of time at first base this season. He is hitting just.216/.279/.243 with no home runs in 43 plate appearances and won’t be starting on Thursday.

Maddon declared, “I’m not a big spring training guy.” “I believe there will be more of what you witnessed in September.”

In 32 games with the Angels last season, Walsh hit.293/.324/.646, with all nine of his home runs occurring in the penultimate month of the campaign.

In addition, Maddon made no official comments about José Rojas, who, following Wednesday’s moves, is essentially the only major league infielder still in camp who can compete for the utility spot on the Angels opening day roster.

“I talk to him all the time, but there’s no white smoke or news to announce yet,” Maddon remarked. “I’m a huge fan,”

The Angels only have five spring games left after their Friday off. According to Maddon, he will pitch as follows for the remainder of the schedule:

On Saturday, Alex Cobb
Andrew Heaney and Griffin Canning on Sunday
Monday: Ohtani Shohei
Tuesday: Quintana, Jose
In the Freeway Series opener against the Dodgers on Sunday in Anaheim, Heaney and Canning will both pitch in shorter stints. It is still unclear, according to Maddon, whether Ohtani will bat on Monday at Dodger Stadium.
