Report: The Alabama Crimson Tide football star player is been suspended from all sports for placing a bet against…
Ryan Grubb was resigned to his fate in Tuscaloosa. After following Kalen DeBoer from Washington, the former offensive coordinator for Alabama football was prepared to take on the SEC after losing out on the Husky head coaching position.
At a news conference on Thursday, Grubb stated, “That’s where I was,” presenting himself to reporters covering the Seattle Seahawks of the NFL. You understand what I mean? Taking on the role of offensive coordinator down there was the main objective.
This place wasn’t set up. I had to keep moving forward with the job I had taken, which was the Alabama offensive coordinator position, because Mike (Macdonald) was going through his process and trying to make the best judgments he could for the Seahawks.
Grubb wasn’t speaking from the podium of the Mal Moore Athletic Facility, of course. He was being presented as the offensive coordinator for the Seattle Seahawks, a position he accepted without having coached a single Crimson Tide game.
During the 2023 NFL Combine, he had met Macdonald, the new head coach of the Seahawks. Macdonald was the Baltimore Ravens’ defensive coordinator at the time.
After around three years of thinking about a future as a head coach or in the NFL, Grubb was given the opportunity to remain in Seattle.
Grubb compared this to the unicorn event in coaching. “The opportunity to work in a city I already adore and to stay right here.”
Grubb had coached DeBoer for a long time. Back in Sioux Falls, at the NAIA level, the two had initially linked up.
After the 2023 season, they had combined to lead the Huskies to a national championship berth. Grubb that he anticipated great things from the guy who took Nick Saban’s place at Alabama even after he left.
“We were certain that this day would arrive,” Grubb remarked. “I’m thrilled for Kalen because I know he’s going to do an amazing job at Alabama, and I know he’s thrilled for me because of this chance.”
According to reports, DeBoer is elevating Nick Sheridan to the position of offensive coordinator in order to cover Grubb’s vacancy.
Prior to Grubb’s departure, the transfer portal window that Saban’s retirement created closed. During the news conference, the recently appointed Seattle offensive coordinator was questioned about the challenge of leaving behind some of the players he had previously taught, especially Austin Mack, the redshirt freshman quarterback who moved from Washington to Alabama to be with his coaches.
“Austin is special in that he knew this was a possibility when I recruited him and talked to his parents, Brad and Lisa,” Grubb remarked. “I warned him that there’s a strong chance I wouldn’t get to see the conclusion of his career, whether it was this year or next year. Therefore, I believe that having open discussions like that when hiring children might be helpful at times of transition.
Not all of Alabama’s coaches made the switch, including Grubb. He took Scott Huff with him, the offensive line coach who had followed DeBoer from Washington as well.
Grubb explained on Thursday why it was so crucial to bring Huff along.
Grubb remarked, “I’ve always felt like Scott was an offensive line coach of NFL caliber.” “I think it really helps the installation process and the beginning points for the team, just to be able to help with the translation part. He’s had opportunities to leave in the past, so to be able to do it and have our system is helpful.”
