Lowetide: Oilers vs. Maple Leafs in the Stanley Cup Final? It’d be a…

I’ve been asking supporters of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Edmonton Oilers over the past few months if they think their clubs will play in the Stanley Cup Final.

Would fans enjoy it?

“No, thanks, I couldn’t deal with losing” was the overwhelming response I got from both parties, and that’s a reasonable one.

Only those who enjoy watching the world burn will find these two sides competing for the Cup to be very appealing.

For average people, that is inconceivable. My non-scientific polling suggests that the potential agony is not worth the pure joy of victory.

We could think about it. How might it appear?

Toronto versus the all of Canada
Throughout the day, there is someone in Canada stating something negative about Toronto every minute of every hour.

In Toronto, nobody takes notice.

It’s a gorgeous city, immaculate and cutting edge in every aspect.

Toronto is so large and influential that it demands all of the attention. This power encompasses all aspects of contemporary convenience, including media, entertainment, and commerce.

On his radio program, radio personality Jim Rome once claimed to be aware of hundreds of rivalries between American towns, cities, and fan bases—but nothing like the rivalry between Toronto and all of Canada.

It stems from the city’s sheer domination from sea to shining sea. There’s a raccoon in a department store, garbage, and transit issues in Toronto?

top stories.

Depending on when the appetizers arrive, the Torontonians I’ve spoken to are either amused or bewildered.

Fans of the Maple Leafs are accustomed to having things done for them. The club spends the majority of their Saturdays at home according to the annual plan, with lengthy road trips interspersed throughout the campaign.

Fans of the Oilers are accustomed to being treated unfairly. No matter how tenuous the justification, the Calgary Flames will be granted a third-round pick that was once owned by the Oilers. It’s expected that the Edmonton supporters will be prepared for it.

Nothing private; this is simply business.
It’s likely that you will work for a Toronto-based corporation if you spend your entire career in western Canada.

I have forty years of broadcasting experience, working for two well-known Toronto families (Sifton and Slaight) for the better part of that time.

In majority of the nation, Toronto-centric media coverage depresses Canadians.

Every weekday, a panel will briefly focus on the Oilers game following the first period before shifting their attention to the Maple Leafs.
