Although St. Louis Battlehawks supporters were still awaiting word on AJ McCarron on Thursday, the squad continued to move forward with the remaining players on the roster. The UFL said that Jaryd Jones-Smith, an offensive tackle, and McKinley Williams, a defensive tackle, had joined the team.

After making eight starts in the previous season and earning a berth on the All-XFL squad, Jones-Smith is back in St. Louis. He was originally selected by the Battlehawks in the 2022 XFL Draft.

After last season, he signed with the Washington Commanders at the conclusion of the XFL season, and spent the entire season on their practice squad.

Jones-Smith played for five different NFL teams from 2018 to 2021 before joining the XFL. In 2019, he also played for the Alliance of American Football’s San Antonio Commanders.

Williams, a former CFL player, was a member of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats’ practice roster in the previous season. Williams made one tackle in one game during the previous season. Prior to being cut during training camp, he was also a member of the Indianapolis Colts roster in that same year as an undrafted free agent.

Williams had 122 tackles, 21 tackles for loss, four sacks, and one fumble recovery in 61 games throughout his six seasons with the Syracuse Orange.

Jones-Smith is a vital addition to St. Louis’ offensive linebacker unit, thus the trade is crucial. The offensive line of the Battlehawks is among the strongest in the UFL and is continually rising in the rankings.

On February 23, teams are expected to report to training camp. On March 30, the Battlehawks kick off their season against the Michigan Panthers.
