Chicago (WLS) — updated drawings of the South Loop-based Chicago White Sox stadium project.

Apartment buildings, public park areas, and the stadium would all be part of the new complex.

ABC7 Chicago is currently available for streaming around-the-clock. View the latest renderings of the team’s potential new residence, provided by developer Related Midwest, by clicking this link.

The conceptual designs depict a partially transparent, open-air ballpark that would complement Chicago’s iconic skyline.

The Sox would relocate from their longtime Bridgeport home to a more than 60-acre plot of land in “The 78,” the newest neighborhood in Chicago, in order to build this new ballpark.

In the developer’s vision, riverfront baseball was tucked in between 18th Street and Roosevelt Road.

“The development would be a catalyst for the creation of Chicago’s next great neighborhood, create tens of thousands of permanent and construction jobs and bring a state-of-the-art White Sox ballpark to the South Loop riverfront,” said Related Midwest, the developer.

Alderwoman Pat Dowell of the Third Ward acknowledged the impact of traffic but supported the opportunity for growth.

“The traffic impact on Roosevelt Road and 18th Street, security, and quality of life issues such as concert noise and pedestrian neighborhood access are just a few of the issues that will all have to be resolved,” Dowell stated last month.

“The historic partnership between the team and Chicago and the team’s ideas for remaining competitive in Chicago in perpetuity” were topics of discussion, according to a joint statement from White Sox owner Jerry Reinsdorf and Mayor Brandon Johnson.

After the Chicago Bears, the White Sox are the second professional team that Chicago officials are fighting to keep inside the city.

Beneath the images of the prospective, glossy new façade, there’s still an oblique price tag and the unsolved question of who will pay for it.
