The three biggest questions for Ohio State football heading into…
The offseason has been fantastic for the Ohio State football team. They made a fantastic appointment at offensive coordinator and gained a ton of quality in the transfer portal. It is quite evident that the Buckeyes are fully committed to the 2024 campaign. It’s bust or a national championship.
There are many questions in light of all the changes. Even if they project to be excellent, the Buckeyes have a large number of them. When the polls are out in late summer, the majority of early predictions place them as one of the top three teams in the nation. They expect a great deal from them.
As we approach spring ball, there are three questions that are more important than the others regarding this squad. We will eventually begin to find out the answers to some of these questions when spring ball begins in a few weeks.
First, I have a question about the offensive line.
How will the offensive line be handled by the Ohio State football team?
A year ago, the offensive line led the team in worst play. They were unable to pass block on the outside or get push in instances with short yardage. For the majority of the year, the tackles were the obvious problem. Josh Simmons and Josh Fryar both had poor performances.
For whatever reason, Ryan Day appears dedicated to keeping Simmons as the starting tackle. Most likely, he remains a left tackle. What then transpires with Fryar? Does he continue to start? Or does Luke Montgomery, who has gained some weight, replace him?
Does Montgomery shove Fryar inside to guard if he takes his place? Ryan Day may not play next season after the Buckeyes signed Seth McLaughlin because he appears to be harboring resentment towards Carson Hinzman for his podcast. He is a guard or center.
For me, the ideal offensive line lineup consists of Simmons, Jackson, Hinzman, McLaughlin, and Montgomery. Spring will provide an answer to that query because we’ll see who receives first-team reps right away.
The biggest thing this club needs to address, in my opinion, is the offensive line. They cannot win a national title if this unit regresses to its previous level. They might not even win the Big Ten, to boot. To fulfill its potential, the team as a whole needs this unit to improve.
The question of who will play linebacker most of the time is the next one.
