ESPN NEWS: Tennessee Titans Has Agreed To Trade A Star Today Over…
Derrick Henry, the Tennessee Titans’ longtime running back, will not be franchised.
The franchise tag of Henry would cost the Tennessee Titans around $12 million for a single season. However, according to Spotrac, an online resource for team and player contracts, Henry’s two-year free-agent contract value would be $10 million annually.
INDIANAPOLIS: Derrick Henry, a running back in the Pro Bowl, is getting closer to departing the Tennessee Titans.
Several claims that the team will not use the franchise tag on Henry were verified by AllTitans.com. The story was initially reported by Adam Schefter of ESPN.com.
Henry would require a one-season franchise tag from the Titans, costing them about $12 million. Henry’s two-year free-agent contract is worth $10 million annually, according to Spotrac, an internet repository for team and player contracts. The Titans have over 70 million dollars in salary cap space, but it wouldn’t be wise to tag the 30-year-old running back.
In the previous season, Henry caught 28 catches for 214 yards and 1,167 yards of touchdowns while also making his fourth Pro Bowl. He was graded at 90.2 by Pro Football Focus and averaged 3.3 yards after contact. In the NFL, those stats trailed only to Christian McCaffrey.
Brian Callahan, the new coach, stated he is amenable to Henry returning.
According to Callahan, “a player like Derrick Henry fits in every offense.” “He’s been an incredible athlete. He has long served as the franchise’s face in this area. Derrick Henry comes to mind when you think about the Tennessee Titans. That works for us if he’s willing to return the item. I will never turn down a talented player.”
However, Henry has expressed a goal to win a Super Bowl, thus his schedule for success would conflict with the Titans’ rebuilding efforts. Henry did, however, add that he would be willing to end his career with the team.
“A player would prefer to spend their entire career playing for the team that gave them their professional start. “I believe that’s a very special and unique situation for that to be able to happen,” Henry remarked. Henry has to gain 508 yards to overtake Eddie George as the Titans’ all-time leading rusher. “I’m not aware of all the specifics, their thoughts, the team’s game plan, or their organizational goals about the coaching change. Thus, I’ll let God have the final say and we’ll have to wait and see.”
Henry is one of several well-known running backs, including Saquon Barkley, Josh Jacobs, Tony Pollard, and Austin Ekeler, who are close to becoming free agents.
