Could coach Mike Tomlin’s final game in black and yellow be Monday night’s between the Buffalo Bills and Pittsburgh Steelers?
John Harbaugh of the Baltimore Ravens may be the next NFL coach with the longest tenure, since Tomlin lost the distinction to him just a week ago.
“People in Pittsburgh want him gone, but Mike Tomlin isn’t getting fired.” Adam Schefter of ESPN recently stated. “He has one year remaining on his contract. Additionally, there are others in the league who think Mike Tomlin may ultimately choose to take a leave of absence, similar to what Sean Payton did. Consider taking a year off.

The NFL coaching turnover would continue if Tomlin decided to take a temporary break from his headset. Just two weeks prior, Tomlin’s 17 years with the Steelers were the second-longest tenure of any coach in team history, behind only the now-retired Patriots coach Bill Belichick.
After the Patriots parted ways with Belichick, Tomlin turned his attention to another sport, albeit that may only be temporary as he may decide to take a hiatus from football.
Considering that the 51-year-old coach has already won a Super Bowl, it seems unreasonable to expect him to retire at this point in his career, especially considering how reliable he has been throughout the league.
Tomlin has never had a losing season since taking over the squad in 2007.
However, despite having one of the worst offenses in the league and making a midseason switch as offensive coordinator, the supporters appear to be ready for something different after the Steelers finished the season 10-7 and qualified for the postseason.
It’s possible that Tomlin’s critics will get their wish, but not because the Steelers own him.

“Mike Tomlin gets to dictate what happens here, not the Pittsburgh Steelers,” Schefter stated. “They won’t let him go. He will remain, but only if he so chooses. If, however, he chooses to walk, then that’s a whole other story.”
Ravens supporters will also be happy that Tomlin is leaving, so it’s not just the angry Steelers supporters who will be relieved. With a 21-16 record against the Ravens since Tomlin took over as coach, the Steelers have prevailed in their AFC North rivalry.
