On August 15, 1955, in Carroll, Iowa, Connie was born as the youngest of six children to Lawrence and Malinda (Fleshner) Heuton. Raised on the family farm, she completed her education at Glidden-Ralston Community School from kindergarten to the 12th grade, earning her diploma in May 1973. After graduating, she relocated right away to the Des Moines, Iowa area, where she has lived ever since. She attended Des Moines Area Community College in Ankeny after earning her degree from the American Institute of Business in Des Moines.
At the age of sixteen, Connie started working part-time. She then went on to work full-time for 40 years at Wells Fargo, Norwest Financial, and Dial Finance. She spent ten years as a standardized patient with Des Moines University after retiring.
The greatest thing that has ever happened to Connie in her life was becoming a mother to Curt Chenoweth in 1986. Being a grandmother to Jack (2013), Owen (2015), and Nico Chenoweth (2023) was a bonus.
For more than 25 years, Connie volunteered at Grace Lutheran Church in a variety of roles, including choir, altar guild, member care, and First Circle Friends. She loved golf, Iowa State athletics, Chicago and Iowa Cubs, traveling, and spending time with her loved ones. Several Big 8 and Big 12 basketball tournaments, a Cubs World Series game, and The Masters were among her most treasured moments.
Upon contemplating her life lessons, Connie gave credit to her mother for teaching her self-care skills. I learned how to take care of others from my dad. Shirley, my sister, instilled in me a passion for reading. I learned patience from my sister, Dea, or at least she set a terrific example for me. I learned how to have a sense of humor from my brother, Larry. Linda, my sister, instilled in me a passion for music. Everything about athletics was taught to me by my brother Lonnie. My son Curt and my grandchildren Jack, Owen, and Nico have shown me the purest form of selfless love.
The surviving members of Connie’s family include her son, Curt Chenoweth; her grandsons, Jack and Owen Chenoweth with Sarah (Humke) Chenoweth, and Nicolas (Nico) Chenoweth with Jessica Rice; her sister, Shirley Disney of Urbandale, Iowa; her brother, Lonnie (Lois) Heuton of Glidden, Iowa; her sister-in-law, Jane Heuton of Des Moines, Iowa; sixteen nieces and nephews, forty-two great nieces and nephews, and numerous great great nieces and nephews survive her.
Her parents, brother Larry Heuton, brother-in-laws Donald Reed and Jack Disney, and nephew Jerry Slocum all passed away before her.
Donations in memory of the deceased may be sent to Suncrest Hospice, The ALS Association Iowa Chapter, or Grace Lutheran Church.
