Breaking: The Caitlin Clark rally for a second straight victory…

Every male and woman to have ever played varsity basketball at a major college has been surpassed by Caitlin Clark.

With a free throw 0.3 seconds before halftime on Sunday against Ohio State in a boisterous Carver-Hawkeye Arena, the 22-year-old Iowa standout upset Pete Maravich’s 54-year record for the most NCAA basketball points ever.

With 18 points remaining before the game, Clark could tie “Pistol Pete’s” 3,667-point NCAA record.

With nine assists, six rebounds, and 35 points at the end of the game, she concluded the game with 3,685 career points as Iowa won 93-83.

“To be in the same space as all these players who have achieved such success, like Lynette Woodard, Pete, or Kelsey Plum — these people have just contributed so much to the game,” Clark remarked. “Hopefully someone breaks my records and comes after me so I can be there to support them.”

There has been considerable discussion regarding the comparison between Maravich’s and Clark’s careers because Maravich finished his career in three seasons as opposed to Clark’s four, and during Maravich’s time at LSU (1967–1970), there was no 3-point line or shot clock.

Breaking Pete Maravich’s record, Caitlin Clark scored her 18th point of the game on a free shot.

Prior to Sunday, though, Maravich’s eldest son Jaeson had nothing but kind things to say about Clark, even saying that her “lanky build and dark eyes” remind him of his father.

“Caitlin has accomplished incredible things. Jaeson Maravich told the Associated Press, “She’s a fantastic player, great for the women’s game and basketball in general.”

The average ticket price for Sunday’s game was greater than any women’s collegiate or WNBA game ever, in anticipation of Clark breaking the record, ESPN previously reported.
