The Football Association released a statement saying, “Ivan Toney has been charged with misconduct in relation to alleged breaches of the FA’s betting rules.” “Betford FC forward is accused of violating FA rule E8 232 times between February 25, 2017, and January 23, 2021.”
It is illegal for English football players to wager on sports in any way or to solicit others to do so on their behalf. The FA’s regulation E8 forbids the exchange of confidential information for betting purposes and imposes severe penalties.
Kieran Trippier, an England international, was fined £70,000 and banned from competition for ten weeks in 2020 after it was discovered that he had told his friends about his impending transfer to Atletico Madrid. Since Trippier had not profited monetarily from his acts, an appeal to Fifa to lessen the ban was denied.

After his appeal was denied, the punishment was increased to four months. Two Boston United players were each accused of 757 violations of Rule E8 last year, which had to do with wagering on games. After being found guilty, Andi Thanoj and Jay Rollins received a five-month ban.
