“YOU WILL  ALL MISS ME” Jim L. Mora Is Back To….

No, it’s safe to say that the UConn football team has moved on from discussing the FBS playoffs, and they hired the wrong Mora for that tirade. That was Jim E. Mora, the 86-year-old retired coach of the Saints and Colts, but when fans hear the name Mora, they often think of his iconic press conference outbursts, which are immortalized on YouTube.

Mora once told reporters, “You guys really don’t know when it’s good or bad.” You are genuinely ignorant. You are unaware of what transpired. Actually, you have no idea. Though you don’t really know, you believe you do. Additionally, you never will.

Although UConn, 31-87 since 2011, may prove to be the ultimate test of his coolness, his son Jim L. Mora, 59, became the 32nd head football coach of UConn on Thursday. During his own NFL and major-college coaching career, he hasn’t made a habit of ranting during press conferences. He actually has some media expertise because he worked on television while he was in between coaching positions. Additionally, AD David Benedict made it a point to ensure that Mora truly understands what he is getting into with regard to UConn.

However, Jim Mora is the son of his father. His passion has always been coaching football, and he has had a turbulent career marked by both great success and failure.

In 1985, he started his coaching career with the Chargers under Don Coryell. In 1992, he moved to New Orleans to live with his father, and in the early 2000s, he was hired as the 49ers’ defensive coordinator. In his first season as head coach, he guided the Atlanta Falcons to the NFC championship game. He was hired in 2004. After two more years and a three-year record of 26–22, he was let go.

After working for the Seattle Seahawks since 2007, he was promoted to head coach in 2009 and fired following a 5-11 year. After assuming leadership at UCLA, he made it to bowl games in each of his first four years. In 2017, he was fired.

Before graduating in 1984, he was a walk-on defensive back and linebacker for the Washington Huskies. He made passing mention of his alma mater over his career. Even though the Falcons were in the playoff race, he informed a radio host that he would accept the Washington position, even though it wasn’t available at the time. He was coaching the Atlanta Falcons. Owner of the Falcons Arthur Blank was not amused, even though he subsequently claimed to be joking. He then turned down a Washington offer while still at UCLA in order to secure a contract extension.

This is standard practice for UConn coaching contacts, and it will rise by $100,000 annually.

Performance bonuses for Mora are still pending and might total up to $200,000 year under the terms of the official contract. These bonuses are only available if UConn’s annual percentage rate stays above 950.

Through 2023 and 2026, he will receive “retention bonuses” totaling $200,000 and $300,000 annually, respectively.

Mora would receive 100% of the remaining compensation in 2022, 75% in 2023 and 2024, 50% in 2025, and 25% in 2026 if UConn terminated the contract in 2022. UConn would receive $8.5 million in “liquidation damages” in 2022 from Mora if the contract is terminated; this amount would then decrease yearly to $5.25 million, $4.05 million, $1.85 million, and $475,000 in 2026.
