Douglas Luiz’s deal to Arsenal was boosted by £119 million after Aston Villa’s financial report.
Douglas Luiz has long been a target for Arsenal’s signing.
It looks like Arsenal has an even better chance to get Douglas Luiz this summer, a transfer goal for a long time. Mikel Arteta has had his eye on the midfield player for some time, and although Aston Villa first refused to consider bids for the Brazilian, they may have to cash in at the end of the current campaign.
Football Insider recently reported that in order to raise money for their own spending, Villa ‘are likely to be obliged’ to sell Luiz once the summer transfer window starts. The 25-year-old is apparently asking a whopping £100 million for his services, which will come as a huge relief given that they only paid £15 million to sign him in 2019.
The West Midlands team announced a £119.6 million deficit through May 31, 2023, in their 2022–2023 season financial statements. According to Premier League profit and sustainability regulations, clubs are only allowed to declare losses totaling up to £105 million for a three-year period.
Villa has stated: “It is important to note that these figures are in line with the strategic business plan, and we continue to operate within the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules,” even if their figure exceeds the threshold.
“The owners of Aston Villa remain committed to the long-term and sustainable development of the Club, and we look forward to continued progress on the delivery of our strategic plan.”
