Pittsburgh, I believe There’s a lot of Pittsburgh Penguins material to go over, but first, let’s take a moment to reflect on what went wrong and why. TSN’s Geno Reda went all out for Sidney Crosby, accusing the Penguins’ management of forsaking him by not recruiting more players. It was a defeat. The Devils fired coach Lindy Ruff, former Penguins winger Alex Nylander is a hot commodity in Columbus, the NHL Trade Deadline is drawing near, and… That, I believe, is where we start.
The Penguins host the Columbus Blue Jackets at PPG Paints Arena tonight, so we’re back to business as usual. I have no idea how challenging the game will be. Even the boys with charter flights and fancy rooms were exhausted at the end of the absurd road trip. With so few games played in the first five months, the NHL schedule creators did the Penguins no favors, and now they are just packing in as many games as can.
Nor can the feelings of the time be positive. They are people. I also hope that supporters don’t vent their frustrations about the disappointing season on the players.
I do hope, though, that you thought PHN did a decent job of covering the trip. It seems like we had a lot of news and information to talk about, from our Vancouver interview with Reilly Smith to Crosby’s response that went viral in Edmonton. It was a quite pleasant feeling.
Penguins of Pittsburgh
We published a delayed Daily yesterday, but I’ll republish Dave’s piece because it had so many excellent sentences. The Penguins’ gap to a postseason berth is practically six games. To advance, they must win five straight and the sixth overall. Unthinkable? No. But grounded? So let’s get started.
What the Penguins need at the NHL trade deadline is outlined in Pittsburgh Hockey Now.
and one of my columns. The Penguins’ inaction was their issue. No fixes, no movements, and no reinforcement after the summer. What was the Penguins’ specific game plan?
I won’t try to change history by riding the Alex Nylander bandwagon, even though I know you want to talk about it. But after scoring a hat trick the previous evening, he’s becoming popular with the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Many Yinz are behaving as though he wasn’t given a fair chance with the Penguins. Say no, no, no.
TSN video: This is the one I believe you should watch today. In a powerful monologue, Geno Reda defended Sidney Crosby, saying the Penguins’ ownership had deserted him. It was sentimental.
