Garrett was assigned as the Arlington Renegades’ starting offensive lineman for 2023 after they signed center Naasir Watkins on Friday.

The first week of UFL training camp forced the Arlington Renegades to make some changes to the offensive line. The signing of center Naasir Watkins on Friday marked the beginning of it. The team placed starting offensive lineman Garrett McGhin from the previous season on injured reserve on Saturday, making history as the first UFL team to do so.

McGhin helped the Renegades win the XFL Championship by starting every game at right tackle in the previous campaign. After a brief stint in the NFL with the Buffalo Bills the previous season, he returned to Arlington this year.

He played spring football in the USFL in 2022 with the New Jersey Generals, so the XFL wasn’t his only stop. He also played for the Jacksonville Jaguars, Carolina Panthers, and New York Giants in the NFL. He started for the East Carolina Pirates for two seasons.

Watkins played for Kentucky in his early collegiate years before joining the Liberty Flames. Over five seasons, he participated in 25 games.

Arlington has added former NFL offensive tackle Bobby Evans to the roster this year, so there should still be possibilities to cover for McGhin’s absence. Taton Saltes is an additional choice, having been an Arlington depth player on the line the previous season.

On March 30, the Renegades play their first UFL game against the Birmingham Stallions.
