NFL MVP-in-reign Patrick Mahomes hurts his knee during the Chiefs’ game against the Broncos.

With a knee injury, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes left Thursday night’s 30–6 victory over the Denver Broncos.

The NFL MVP winner would not be playing in the game again, the Chiefs announced right away. According to NFL Network, Mahomes dislocated his patella and will need to have an MRI to see if any ligament damage occurred.

In the second quarter, with his team leading 10–6, Mahomes injured his knee on a fourth-and-1 run for a first down at the Broncos’ 3-yard line.

To help straighten the knee, one of the Chiefs’ medical staff members worked on it. Mahomes was supposed to be taken off the field by a cart, but he wrapped an arm around each trainer before leaving the field. After playing with a sore ankle, Mahomes cautiously made his way to the locker room.

Mahomes tweeted an upbeat statement following the game, saying, “Great team victory! adore my brothers! I appreciate all of the prayers. So far, everything appears to be going well.”
Mahomes was replaced in the game by backup quarterback Matt Moore, an 11-year NFL veteran in his first season with the Chiefs. Moore gained 117 yards and a touchdown on 11 of his 19 passes completed.
Since the Chiefs’ victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 1, Mahomes has been battling an ankle injury.
