ESPN REPORT: Another Strong Player Commits to ravens flock..
On the January 10, 1995, Hardcore TV broadcast of Extreme Championship Wrestling, Raven’s Nest was established when Stevie Richards presented the former Johnny Polo as Raven, who declared himself to be the head of Generation X. In a match, Raven assisted Richards in defeating Hack Meyers.[2] After making his debut, Raven started a feud with Tommy Dreamer right away. He aired weekly television promos to express his hatred of Dreamer and instilled it in Richards.[3]Richards’ winning run came to an end when he lost to Dreamer in a bout that took place at Double Tables [4][5].[6] After Richards added The Broad Street Bullies (Johnny Hotbody and Tony Stetson) as the group’s newest member and the four of them engaged Dreamer in combat, Raven’s faction started to grow at Return of the Funker. After Dreamer overcame Richards, Stetson, and Hotbody but was unable to defeat Raven after Terry Funk cut off Raven’s shackles, Raven, Richards, and the Bullies defeated Dreamer in a Generation X gauntlet match at Extreme Warfare.
Richards threatened to fire the Bullies from Raven’s Nest if they didn’t win their bout against The Pitbulls (Pitbull #1 and Pitbull #2) at Three Way Dance. The Bullies were vanquished by the Pitbulls, who thereafter took their place in Raven’s Nest. In the next match, which was Dreamer and Raven’s first singles match, Raven presented Beulah McGillicutty, an obese girl that Dreamer had abandoned after they had met her at a summer camp. By then, she was a Penthouse model, and she sent Raven to the ring on her second. Dreamer had to step in when Richards attempted to kiss McGillicutty during the match, and the latter smacked him instead. It proved to be a ruse, as Raven defeated him after Richards attacked her and McGillicutty used hairspray to blind him. The week after, Richards faced Mikey Whipwreck at Hostile City Showdown, who triumphed over Richards after Hack Meyers stopped Raven from interfering with the match. Dreamer’s famous piledriver blow on McGillicutty terminated the rematch between Raven and Dreamer later that evening. Pitbulls would also participate in the competition; they would lose their challenge against Public Enemy (Johnny Grunge and Rocco Rock) for the World Tag Team Championship.
Whipwreck and Dreamer faced Raven and Richards in a tag match at Enter the Sandman; Dreamer struck Raven with a closed fist, and Raven and Richards prevailed by disqualification. Pitbulls faced Public Enemy again for the World Tag Team Championship later in the evening in a dog collar match, but they were unable to win the titles. Public Enemy was given five minutes with Richards due to a pre-match agreement, but Raven stopped him, starting a melee that ended with Dreamer making the save. Dreamer ended the evening by giving Beulah McGillicutty a piledriver after she and Luna Vachon became involved. Vampire Warrior, the newest member of Raven’s Nest, made his ECW debut at Barbed Wire, Hoodies & Chokeslams. He came to ECW to battle Dreamer and force Dreamer to release his actual wife Vachon. Dreamer would then defeat Warrior in a bout. Later that evening, Richards attacked Vachon with a chair to assist McGillicutty in winning a bout. After the match, there was a vicious scene where Raven tried to attack Vachon with a chair while she was handcuffed in a crucifixion position, but Dreamer intervened to stop the blow. Dreamer’s inability to combine with 2 Cold Scorpio and Taz in a six-man tag match against Pitbulls and Richards resulted in a handicap contest. This was due to the assault. Richards would become sidetracked and flirt with McGillicutty and Francine, who were making their ringside debuts. This led to Raven reprimanding Richards and shoving him back into the locker room. Scorpio and Taz defeated Pitbulls as a result of the diversion. The seeds of discord between Pitbulls and Raven’s Nest would be sown by this incident.
Champions of the ECW World Tag Team (1995)
Pitbulls defeated local wrestlers Dino Sandoff and Don E. Allen at Mountain Top Madness, and Raven and Richards won the ECW World Tag Team Championship by defeating Public Enemy. Pitbulls faced the Dudley Brothers (Dudley Dudley and Snot Dudley) in their first match at Hardcore Heaven. Francine kissed Richards during the bout, which caused McGillicutty to fight with her. By dragging them backstage and diverting Pitbulls’ attention, Raven broke up the fight, resulting in another comparable defeat for them. Raven and Richards defended the World Tag Team Championship against Dreamer and Vachon later in the evening. After Beulah flung powder in Vachon’s face, they kept their titles. After the game, Pitbulls would show up, and Raven would give them orders to give Vachon a superbomb. Pitbulls refused to comply, so Richards and Raven shoved apple pie in their faces to make them feel humiliated. Eventually, the pitbulls turned into faces and left Raven’s Nest, attacking both Raven and Richards. They attempted to attach a superbomb to Richards, but Richards was saved by the Dudley Brothers, proving their loyalty to Raven’s Nest.
After exiting the ring to break up a brawl between Francine and Beulah, Raven and Richards defeated Don E. Allen and Tony Stetson at Heat Wave to retain the World Tag Team Championship. Later in the evening, Richards lost a steel cage battle against Vachon, and Raven and Dudley Brothers were defeated by Dreamer and Pitbulls in a six-man tag match. Following the steel cage bout, there was a scuffle in the ring where Dreamer chained Raven and struck him with a chair, an incident that went down in wrestling history as “The Chair Shot Heard Around The World.” In an eight-man tag match at Wrestlepalooza, Dreamer, Cactus Jack, and Pitbulls were defeated by the four-man Raven’s Nest team, which included Raven, Richards, and the Dudley Brothers (Big Dick Dudley and Dudley Dudley). Dreamer was turned on by Jack, who hit him with a double arm DDT before Raven pinfalled him. Following the event, Jack became a member of Raven’s Nest and started a vendetta with Dreamer. Following months of catfights, Beulah McGillicutty and Francine squared off in a battle on August 26. For this encounter, Stevie Richards was the guest referee. Richards gave Francine a Stevie Kick to turn her on, and McGillicutty pinned her to win. Following the game, Raven and Richards helped McGillicutty give Francine a spike piledriver. After that, Francine started battling Raven’s Nest alongside The Pitbulls.
During this time, Dances with Dudley became Dudley Dudley’s new tag team partner in Dudley Brothers after Snot Dudley became injured and eventually left ECW. Dudleys defeated Don E. Allen and Chad Austin at Gangstas Paradise. Later in the evening, Dreamer and 9-1-1 attacked dishonest referee Bill Alfonso and blocked interferences from the Dudley Brothers, forcing Commissioner Tod Gordon to count the pinfall. As a result, Raven and Richards lost the World Tag Team Championship to The Pitbulls in a two-out-of-three falls match. El Puerto Riqueño, making his debut at South Philly Jam, lost to Cactus Jack when the latter refused to give up the match. After the bout, Raven and Jack assaulted Riqueño. Dreamer made the save, but Raven and Jack double-teamed him, forcing Pitbulls to make the save. Raven and Richards reclaimed the belts at the event by defeating Pitbulls later on. But at the same event, The Gangstas (Mustafa Saed and New Jack) and Raven and Richards lost the belts to Public Enemy in a three-way match. As the newest member of Dudley Brothers, Buh Buh Ray Dudley made his ECW debut on the October 17 Hardcore TV show, Raven’s Nest welcomed a new member.
When Buh Buh stutteringly called a battle between Broad Street Bully and Don E. Allen at November to Remember, he became enraged and attacked both combatants. The Bully was later vanquished by Buh Buh in a match. Later in the evening, Dreamer and Terry Funk defeated Raven and Jack, and Richards introduced The Blue Meanie, who was making his debut, as his sidekick. In the first match of December to Dismember, Dog and Rose’s Bad Crew was defeated by Buh Buh and Dances with Dudley. Later on in the evening, Dreamer and Raven engaged in a resentment battle, which Raven prevailed in by hitting Dreamer with a beer bottle. Later that evening, Raven and Richards faced Dreamer, Pitbulls, and Public Enemy in an Ultimate Jeopardy match where the winner would have a condition placed on them if they were pinned or submitted. They were teamed with The Heavenly Bodies (Jimmy Del Ray and Tom Prichard) and The Eliminators (Kronus and Saturn). A pre-match clause left Richards pinned and the other five members of the opposing team imprisoned in a cage. Dreamer tried to attack Richards, but Raven’s squad attacked him instead because Pitbulls and Public Enemy had been shackled to the ring apron during the bout. Eventually, the Sandman saved the day by using a Singapore cane to assault Raven and his allies, causing them to back down.
Following Whipwreck’s victory over 2 Cold Scorpio to win both the latter’s ECW World Television Championship and the World Tag Team Championship, Cactus Jack declared himself to be Mikey Whipwreck’s tag team partner for the ECW World Tag Team Championship at Holiday Hell. Later in the program, Dreamer and Raven were scheduled to square off in a match that would have determined the #1 challenger for the ECW World Heavyweight Championship, but Richards asserted that Raven was unable to compete due to a broken leg. This diverted Dreamer’s attention enough for Blue Meanie to assault him. Dreamer and Blue Meanie engaged in an instant fight, which Dreamer won with ease. After that, Dreamer assaulted Richards, and Dreamer swiftly overcame him as well. Dreamer then tried to hammer a piledriver into Beulah, but Raven attacked him. This resulted in their bout, which Raven won with help from Meanie and Richards. Later on in the event, Meanie and Richards teased Buh Buh about her dancing abilities, which led to a fight inside Raven’s Nest when Richards threatened to make Raven angry. The Dudley Brothers left Raven’s Nest as a result of Buh Buh defeating Meanie and leaving Richards. Additionally, Cactus Jack interfered in Raven’s attempt to win the World Heavyweight Championship from The Sandman, and Jack was defeated by Sabu in the main event.
