After winning four straight games during spring training, the New York Mets (8-5) will visit the Detroit Tigers (8-7) at Clover Park in Port St. Lucie, Florida, on Sunday. After starting the season with the biggest payroll in MLB history, the Mets won just 75 games the previous year. In response, they brought in Carlos Mendoza as general manager and David Stearns as team president, respectively, in place of manager Buck Showalter and general manager Billy Eppler. After posting its best finish since 2016, Detroit finished the season with 78 wins, but over the winter, the Arizona Diamondbacks signed star Eduardo Rodriguez in free agency.

The New York Yankees defeated the St. Louis Cardinals 9-3 on Saturday thanks to home runs from Francisco Lindor in the first and a sacrifice fly in the second. Sean Manaea, a left-hander, struck out five in four scoreless innings before William Lugo hit a home run for the Mets in the ninth.
The Tigers defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 8-5 on Saturday thanks to a three-run home run by Keston Hiura during a four-run fourth inning. In the ninth, Andrew Navigato hit a home run. Matt Manning, the starter, gave up four runs while striking out five in three innings.
On Sunday, Adrian Houser, the right-hander the Mets acquired from the Milwaukee Brewers over the winter, will make his third springtime start. In Florida, he has pitched 3.2 innings and given up three runs. Brant Hunter, a non-roster invitee, will make his debut for Detroit after the left-hander allowed just one unearned run in five innings of relief while striking out six batters.
