April 01, (THEWILL) – Liverpool have been boosted by the return to fitness of some key players ahead of their English Premier League clash away to Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

Winger Luis Diaz is fit to play while strikers Darwin Nunez, 24, and Dominik Szoboszlai, 23, have also returned to train with the squad and could feature. However, talisman Mohamed Salah remains sidelined for at least another week, manager Jurgen Klopp confirmed.

Klopp has struggled with an extensive injury list in recent weeks, forcing him to promote several youngsters from the Academy. Diogo Jota, Trent Alexander-Arnold, goalkeeper Alisson, Curtis Jones and Salah were among those missing for last Sunday’s League Cup final victory over Chelsea.

Diaz and midfielder Alexis Mac Allister have now recovered from their own fitness issues to bolster Klopp’s options at the City Ground.

Salah has not played since limping off during the EPL leaders’ draw at Brentford on February 17. He could return against title rivals Manchester City next weekend as the Reds look to hold off Pep Guardiola’s side in the race for the title.

Liverpool’s young guns have impressed in stepping up to fill the void, with 18-year-olds Jayden Danns and Lewis Koumas scoring their first senior goals in Wednesday’s 3-0 FA Cup win away to Southampton. Klopp praised their efforts but knows his squad face a gruelling run-in to maintain their push for an unprecedented quadruple.

Forest sit 17th, just four points above the drop zone, but will be desperate to avoid defeat on home soil. “The situation they are in is a similar one to us, they need to win games to reach their target as much as we can,” Klopp stated. Victory for Liverpool would strengthen their grip on top spot heading into next weekend’s monumental matchup with City at Anfield.
