Regarding the dismissal of Jaguars coaching staff members, head coach Doug Pederson issued the following statement:
I have had to make the tough choice to relieve a number of the coaching staff members—both on the offensive and defensive ends of the ball—of their responsibilities since the conclusion of our season. All of these coaches deserve my gratitude for their incredibly hard work over the past two seasons. In the end, I believed that in order for our football team to accomplish the things we are capable of, change was required.

A year after winning the AFC South, the Jaguars finished with a 9-8 record after dropping five of their final six games. This is in response to the defense giving up 28 points or more in four of the previous five losses, including the 28-20 season-ending loss to the Titans on Sunday. In addition to having trouble near the end, Jacksonville’s defense finished 17th overall in points allowed and 22nd overall in total defense. The Jaguars, in particular, had a terrible time stopping the pass, ranking 25th in scoring and 26th in yards allowed.
