After Quarreling With the Head Coach, Atlanta Braves key player departed from the team.

The Atlanta Braves have announced that longtime first base coach Eric Young will be leaving the team to work on third base coach Ron Washington’s new staff with the Los Angeles Angels.

In 2018, 56-year-old Young became a member of the Braves. After fifteen years in Major League Baseball, where he played as a founding member of the Colorado Rockies in 1993, Young became a base running and outfield coordinator for the Houston Astros. He was hired as the first base coach by the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2010. He also coached Colorado and Atlanta on the field.

The Braves’ big league coaching staff has experienced virtually little change under manager Brian Snitker. Atlanta has allowed its coaches to conduct interviews, but until this offseason, departures have not occurred frequently.

Ron Washington, the first Black manager hired since 2020, is set to lead one of the most diversified coaching staffs in Major League Baseball. Torii Hunter as first base coach, Ryan Goins as infield coach (a confirmed appointment), and Clint Hurdle as bench coach (a role he has since ruled out) are just a few of the possibilities that have been floated.

It’s unclear who Atlanta is currently considering for the first and third positions; not many of the applicants who were on our list of potentials with Washington’s hiring confirmed were removed from consideration. The Yankees reportedly urged former Cubs manager and Braves catcher David Ross to explore taking on a managerial role; Ross declined, perhaps ruling him out of consideration for an assistant position in Atlanta.

UPDATE: Rather than reassigning the coaches, Atlanta plans to look for immediate replacements for the two jobs, according to Braves insider David O’Brien.
