“LIFE OR DEATH SITUATION” The Green Bay Packers star player fears the worst as life threatening injury.

Leigh Steinberg, Drew Bledsoe’s agent, opened out about how “helpless” it was to watch the quarterback suffer a terrible injury that eventually helped Tom Brady become a household name.

After being chosen first overall in the 1993 NFL Draft, Bledsoe became the team’s face in New England. During his nine years at Foxborough, he is largely recognized for having turned around the team’s fortunes.

After a seven-year absence, the Patriots made a comeback to the postseason under Bledsoe’s leadership. They won the AFC East division twice and advanced to Super Bowl XXI, where they were beaten 35–21 by the Green Bay Packers. In 1995, Bledsoe participated in the NFL’s all-star game and became the youngest quarterback to have ever been selected to three Pro Bowls.

Bledsoe seemed to be the Patriots’ long-term leader after agreeing to a then-NFL record 10-year contract for $103 million ahead of the 2001 season. However, linebacker Mo Lewis viciously drilled Bledsoe during the team’s second game of the season against the New York Jets.

Brady took over for the quarterback for the remainder of the game after it seemed like he had a concussion, but the quarterback’s condition was far worse.

After being taken to the hospital, Bledsoe was found to be leaking a pint of blood every hour due to a hemothorax caused by Lewis’ hit to his chest, which had torn a blood vessel. Steinberg disclosed the impact that such situations had on agents and those in the player’s immediate vicinity after the injury, which was almost deadly.

“We’re not playing croquet or chess; even though you may be able to protect a player financially, the worst part of my job over the years has been dealing with injuries,” Steinberg exclusively told Mirror Sport. “Each play in the game of football is like a traffic accident for the human body, despite the fact that these sportsmen have remarkable healing abilities.

“I feel incapable of anything. It’s not a safe game overall, but there have been some aspects of it—like concussions—that I’ve been able to work pretty hard for reforms and increased safety.

“Every Sunday, you sit there with a physician’s desk reference on your table, breaking down every part of the body.”

Brady’s enormous performance prevented Bledsoe from regaining his starting spot for the remainder of the season, even after he recovered from his catastrophic accident. At the end of the 2001 season, Brady finally guided the Patriots to their first Super Bowl victory. This marked the beginning of an unmatched period of supremacy, as the team won six titles during the GOAT’s two-decade stay in New England.

After spending three seasons with the Buffalo Bills, where he appeared in a fourth Pro Bowl, Bledsoe concluded his career with two seasons with the venerable Dallas Cowboys. Brady eventually overshadowed Bledsoe’s Patriots reputation, but in New England, Bledsoe is still highly respected.

In the 1990s, he revitalized the team and even contributed significantly to their first-ever Super Bowl victory, taking Brady’s place when he was hurt and helping the Patriots defeat the Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC Championship. 2011 saw Bledsoe’s induction into the Patriots Hall of Fame.
