Details on Bruce Cassidy Suspension.
Boston —
Three weeks after the team’s playoff elimination, Bruce Cassidy, the head coach of the Boston Bruins, was sacked.
Less than two years after being voted the National Hockey League’s Coach of the Year, Cassidy was dismissed of his duties by the Bruins, according to general manager Don Sweeney on Monday.

In each of his six seasons as head coach, the 57-year-old Cassidy guided the Bruins to the postseason. Under Cassidy, Boston made it to the Stanley Cup Final in 2019.
“This was an incredibly difficult decision, especially after 14 years working with Bruce,” Sweeney said in a statement. “I would want to express my gratitude to Bruce for all of his efforts and achievements with the Bruins team. Bruce has an outstanding track record as the Bruins’ head coach, and we are grateful for him on a personal and professional level. After giving it some thought, I believed that a fresh perspective would help our team’s trajectory for the upcoming season and beyond.
On February 7, 2017, Cassidy was appointed head coach of the Bruins, succeeding 2011 Stanley Cup winner Claude Julien. In the regular season, he finished with 245 wins, 108 losses, and 46 overtime losses. He had a 36-37 postseason record.
2019 saw Boston come dangerously close to winning its seventh Stanley Cup with a core of Brad Marchand, Tuukka Rask, Patrice Bergeron, and Zdeno Chara, but Cassidy’s team lost in seven games to the St. Louis Blues.
The Bruins ended with the best record in the NHL and won the Presidents’ Trophy with 100 points in 70 games, earning him the 2020 Jack Adams Award, which is given to the NHL’s greatest coach.
