On Friday, the National Football League and the National Football League Players Association jointly released a document updating their gambling policy. The league has lessened penalties for players who gamble on non-NFL games in team facilities, but it has increased penalties for players who wager on NFL games.
If a player bets on his own team, he will be suspended for two years in addition to a year for gambling on NFL games.

If non-NFL wagers are placed within team premises, the first infraction will result in a two-game suspension without pay; the second infraction will result in a six-game suspension without pay; and the third infraction would result in a year-long suspension without pay.
Former Crimson Tide wide receiver Jameson Williams is one of the violators who will be added back to their teams on Monday as a result of the new policy. Williams’ 2023 punishment was originally set to last six games, but it has since been shortened to just four.

After four weeks of play, the Detroit Lions are now atop the NFC North with a 3-1 record. Williams is scheduled to play again for the Lions against the Carolina Panthers on October 8 at home.
The speedster was selected in the first round of the 2022 draft, but he had to heal from ACL surgery for the most of his rookie season. During his six games last season, he caught one pass for 41 yards and a touchdown and had one carry for 40 yards.
He joins a receiving group that was headed by Amon-Ra St. Brown and had 91 receptions for 1,029 yards and six touchdowns.
